POAH is renovating the former Sacred Heart Rectory, School, and Convent buildings into new affordable housing at 49 Sixth Street in East Cambridge

about:

Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is working to transform the former Sacred Heart Rectory, School, and Convent into 46 much-needed affordable housing units for the residents of East Cambridge. This innovative adaptive reuse project will simultaneously contribute critical affordable homes to the community while preserving and restoring the beautiful architectural character of these historic structures.

The buildings will be redeveloped under Cambridge’s Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO) ordinance and will remain affordable in perpetuity. The AHO was adopted by the City of Cambridge in 2020 to promote the creation of affordable housing by streamlining the zoning process.
